Round 9 Review

Juniors

Warracknabeal Revengers took on the Nhill Leopards and came out on top in a very close and even match. Full back Jordan Williams managed to score for the Revengers, earning 3 umpires votes in the process. Adam Furey, 2 votes and Tiffany Bull, 1 vote were the other Revengers best players. Best on ground for the Leopards were Shaun Greenburger, 3 votes, Oscar Stephen, 2 votes and Molly Webb, 1 vote.

The Kaniva Raiders had a hard game against the top team the Yanac Warriors. The Warriors started off the game as usual with some good attacking play and by half time they had scored 4 goals. By full time the Warriors at scored another 4 goals. The Raiders certainly didn't give up and scored a goal of their own through Jordan Clark. Goals and votes for Warriors went to Sam Bone, 3 votes and 4 goals, Bradley Alexander, 2 votes and Alex Wheaton, 1 vote. Votes for Raiders went to Joe McDonald, 3 votes, Braden Clark, 2 votes, Lachlan Clark, 1 vote and Braden Rich, 1 vote.

As anticipated, the Dimboola Kookaburras were too strong and experienced for the Horsham Bombers. By half time the Kookaburras had amassed 5 goals. The Kookaburras continual attacks wore down the Bombers defenses and by the end of the game the Kookaburras had scored another 6 goals. The Kookaburras goal scorers were Jamie Guerin, 6 goals, 1 vote and a green card. James Keating, 1 vote, Jayrell Guzarem, 3 votes, Louis Haines, 2 votes, Ashlee Crowhurst and Nick Crowhurst all scored one goal each. Bombers best players were unsurprisingly the defensive players, Jo Ellis, 3 votes, Elly O'Conner, 2 votes, Ange McTaggert and Will Gulline received 1 vote each.

Women

An exciting match was played by the Warracknabeal Women against the Dimboola Women, but the home ground advantage didn't help Warracknabeal to win. Elizabeth Klinge was a stand out player for Dimboola at half back, helping to stop the Warracknabeal attacking plays and earning 3 votes. Similarly, Tammy Goyne played an excellent game for Warracknabeal at half back and earned 3 votes and a goal. Dimboola made the most of their chances during the game and scored a total of 5 goals through Kristin Klinge, 2 goals and 1 vote, Zoe Harberger, Michelle Searle and Judith Albrecht with 1 goal each. Meaghan Pohlner rounded out the Dimboola's best by getting 2 votes. Alana Argent helped Warracknabeal stay in the game with a goal of her own, but it wasn't enough. Linley Arnold-Wardle and Nakita Langman received 2 and 1 umpires votes respectively.

The Yanac Women took down the Kaniva Women 3 goals to 0. Yanac's defense stood out and got the umpires votes – Jo Pedie, 3 votes, Erin Blackwood, 2 votes and Jo Wheaton with 1 vote. Yanac's 3 goals went to Erin Blackwood, Jill Kube and Sharon Croot. Kaniva's best were Roey Sanders, 3 votes, Samantha Wallis, 2 votes and Kayla Sanderson with 1 vote.

Unfortunately the Nhill Thunderbirds forfeited to the Horsham Highlanders.

Men

Although the Horsham Hurricanes started well with lots of attacking plays, they couldn't beat the Nhill Rangers. The Hurricanes had lots of clean possessions, but couldn't score when in their attacking circle. The Rangers stepped up in the second half of the game, and scored a single goal through Mont Miller. The Rangers held onto their 1 goal lead for the rest of the half despite the Hurricanes desperate attacks. Votes for the Rangers went to Graeme Janetzki , 3votes, Jarrod Bendal, 2 votes, Trevor James and Taylor Dent with 1 vote each. Best for the Hurricanes were Paul Mackereth, 3 votes, Stuart Hoffman, 2 votes and Launa Schilling who filled in from the Horsham Highlanders with 1 vote.

The Warracknabeal Hoops and Dimboola Men played a fast and open game that ended win a draw despite both teams pushing hard in attack. Warracknabeal took the lead close to the end of the first half with a brilliant goal from Jarrod Knoop off a short corner. Dimboola evened the score 20 minutes into the final 35 minute half, making for an exciting finish to the game with fast and courageous play from both teams. Nathan Jorgensen scored Dimboola's only goal, and got 1 vote from the umpires. James Klinge, 3 votes and Craig Searle, 2 votes also stood out for Dimboola. Hoops best were Paul Slater, 3 votes, Darren Brown, 2 votes and Barry Schilling, 1 vote.

The final mens game of the day saw Yanac Tigers return to their impressive winning form against the Kaniva Men. The Tigers scored very early in the first half, and were able to make quick turnarounds to put pressure on to Kaniva's back line. The final goal tally and votes for the Tigers was 7 goals which went to Jim Kramer, 2 goals and 1 vote, Kim Croot, 1 goal and 3 votes, Craig Magrath, 1 goal and 1 vote, Daniel Kennedy, 1 goal, Jamie Harding, 1 goal, Nathan Alexander, 1 goal, Simon Farmers, 2 votes. Kaniva's best on ground went to Clint Beattie, 3 votes, goalie Matt Wallis, 2 votes and Josh Bedford with 1 vote.
