Wimmera Hockey Semi Finals

Juniors:

Warriors defeated Raiders in a 4-2 match for grand final spot. Great fast paced match, very competitive. Warriors taking advantage of attacking play with 2 early goals. Goal scorers were Sam Bone, Alex Pipcorn, Louise Bone and Todd Alexander of Warriors and Raiders goal scorer was Braden Clark with 2 goals. Votes went to Ryan Smith, Alex Magrath, Sam Bone and Louise Bone of Warriors and Raiders votes went to Lewis Bothe, Braden Clark and Lachie Mills.

Revengers defeated Kangaroos in a 2-1 match for preliminary spot. Revengers jumped out of the blocks to score within a minute. Kangaroos regrouped and scored midway through the half to equal the score. Even Game, Revengers playing the better team game. Revengers continued steadily using good team play to score midway through the second half. Goal scorers were Darius Cosgrave and Isaac McPherson of Revengers and Kangaroos goal scorer was Jamie Guerin. Votes went to Michael Clark, Darius Cosgrave and Isaac McPherson of Revengers and Kangaroos votes went to Caleb Halsall, Andrew King and Zack Slater-Collard.

Women’s

Dimboola Women’s defeated Horsham Highlanders in a 3-0 match for Grand Final spot. First half saw both teams working hard with no goals being scored. Second half Dimboola picked up and scored 3 quick goals towards the end of the second half. Goal scorers were Vicki Smithyman, Michelle Searle and Jessica Ross of Dimboola. Votes went to Meaghan Pohlner, Michelle Searle and Jessica Ross of Dimboola and Highlanders votes went to Ange McTaggert, Elly O’Connor and Kellie Price.

Yanac defeated Nhill Thunderbirds in a 4 -3 match for Preliminary spot. Thunderbirds having trouble getting into the ‘D’. Slightly more play to Yanac in the first half, with bursts of attack from Thunderbirds. Yanac with more team play. Whenever Thunderbirds attacks, Yanac has a good counterattack. Victoria Janetski getting a goal from short corner with 1 minute left in the first half to even the score. Second half saw Leah Bailey scoring from a short after a great run from Lauren Bendall in the 4 minute mark. Yanac retaliating with a goal from a 2^nd consecutive short corner by Erin Blackwood to even the score 2 all. Jasmine Wilksch putting Yanac in the lead with a field goal. Goal scorers were Erin Blackwood, Jasmine Wilksch, Marny Croot and Sharon Croot of Yanac and Thunderbirds goal scorers were Pam Cramer, Leah Bailey and Victoria Janetski. Votes went to Sheree Shurdington, Alana Colbert, Erin Blackwood and Carmel Beattie of Yanac and Thunderbirds votes went to Emma Janetski, Lauren Bendall and Leah Bailey.

Men’s

Yanac Tigers defeated Kaniva Cobras in a 4-2 match for grand final spot. 1^st half – 4 mins in, Yanac scoring through Nathan Alexander through a field goal. 10 mins in and Yanac with all the play. 15 minutes in Josh Cramer with a goal off a short, putting Yanac 2 in front. 20 mins in Matt McDonald scoring from a “bubbly” ball in a short corner. Half time score: Yanac 2 – Kaniva 1

2^nd half – 10 mins in, Josh Cramer with a goal from a cross across goal, putting Yanac 2 goals in front. Kaniva stepping up in the 2^nd half to attack and put pressure on Yanac. 3 mins left, Yanac scores, then Kaniva scored through Brett Jewell. Goal scorers were Josh Cramer (2), Michael Dart and Nathan Alexander of Tigers. Cobras goal scorers were Brett Jewell and Matthew McDonald. Votes went to Adam Clohesy, Nathan Alexander and Brad Alexander of Tigers and Cobras votes went to Clint Beattie, Jordan Clark and Adam Wallis.

Dimboola defeated Warracknabeal Hoops in a 3-0 match for the preliminary spot. Dimboola much better in forward line after a slow start. Hoops struggling with having shots, but getting in the ‘D’ nonetheless. James Klinge stand-out for Dimboola. Half-time: Dim 2, Hoops 0. Hoops stepped up in the second half with much more attacking play, but still couldn’t convert. Dimboola made the most of their attack with a great field goal by Jamie Guerin. Goal scorers were Jamie Guerin (2) and James Klinge. Votes went to Tim Jorgensen, James Klinge and Jamie Guerin of Dimboola and Hoops votes went to Ethan Schilling, Darius Cosgrave and Jarrod Koop.

Next week the Preliminary finals will be held in Kaniva.

Juniors:

Raiders defeat Kangaroos for second spot on the ladder. Raiders prepared to run and attack goals, being rewarded with several goals. Zack Slater-Collard strong for Kangaroos and Brandon Rich for Raiders. Raiders continues on their merry way with good team work resulting in more goals. Kangaroos with several streaks forward but Raiders defence was too strong. Final score 11-0 Raiders way. Goal scorers were Lachlan Clark (4), Braden Clark (3), Duncan Shalders (2) and Kylan Kennedy and Lewis Bothe (1 goal each). Votes went to Brandon Rich, Lewis Bothe and Lachie Mills of Raiders and votes for Kangaroos went to Jamie Guerin, Madison Albrecht and Zack Slater-Collard.

Revengers defeated Leopards in a 3-0 match. Reasonably even with Revengers having an edge over the Leopards. Revengers looked more dangerous up in the forward line. Leopards holding strong in defence keeping the score 0 all at half time. First part of the second half continued to be close and hard fought. Revengers scored halfway through, then putting on 2 more goals in quick succession to put the game beyong the Leopards reach. Goal scorers were Darius Cosgrave (2) and Hamish Wagenknecht (1). Votes went to Hamish Wagenknecht, Isaac McPherson and Brodie Dennis of Revengers and for Leopards votes went to Duncan Koop, Tim Brandler, Brady Newcombe and Emma Janetzki.

Warriors defeated Bombers by 10 goals. Warriors dominating the match but Bombers had a few good runs. Goal scorers were Alex Pipkorn and Adam Ussing (2) Ryan Smith, Alex McGrath, Louise Bone, Todd Alexander, Josh McGrath and Jaidyn Honeyman (1 goal each). Votes went to Louise Bone, Alex Pipkorn and Josh McGrath of Warriors and for Bombers votes went to Jo Ellis, Claire Barnett and Mikaela Turvey.

Women’s

Highlanders defeated Kaniva by 1. Highlanders dominating first half but was unable to convert on several occasion. Kaniva kept strong in defence keeping scores at 0 all at half time. Second half saw Highlanders strong in forward line scoring with 7 minutes left by Carmel McFarlane. Votes went to Emily Williams, Denise Vallance, Claire Barnett and Mikaela Turvey of Highlanders and votes for Kaniva went to Claire Riches, Rachel Clark, Kiralee Wilde and Heidi White.

Dimboola defeated Warracknabeal in a 6-0 match. Slow and steady match. Dimboola dominated play but unable to score consistently. Warracknabeal defence working well against the constant attack. Half time score Dimboola 2 Warracknabeal 0. Second half saw Dimboola again had more of the play and were able to score another 4 goals as the game slowed down towards the end. Goal scorers were Vicki Smithyman (3), Adina King, Kristy O’Connor and Nyree Hutchins (1 goal each). Votes went to Meaghan Pohlner, Elizabeth Klinge and Jess Ross of Dimboola. Votes for Warracknabeal went to Tiffany Bull, Jess Furey, Donna Robinson and Megan Harley.

Thunderbirds defeated Yanac in a 1 goal win. Fairly even play, Yanac had slightly more attack and passing well together. Thunderbirds were playing more as individuals in the first half. Second half same as first except Thunderbirds particularly Lauren Bendall pushed through and scored. Goal scorers were Lauren Bendall (3) and Bonnie McLeod (1) for Thunderbirds and Yanac goal scorers were Erin Blackwood, Jaz Wilksh and Ellen Wheaton. Votes went to Jeanette McLoed, Pam Cramer, Ange McCartney and Leah Bailey.

Men’s:

Hoops defeated Dimboola by 1 goal. First Half: Warracknabeal pushing hard early with plenty of attacking play in the ‘D’. Although Dimboola had a few shots on goal. Jamie Guerin scoring off a short corner for Dimboola, after a good run down the field from Tim Jorgensen. Warracknabeal coming back with 5 minutes left from Paul Slater scoring from a short. Jamie Guerin scoring from a field goal straight back. Half-time score 2-1 Dimboola’s way.

Ethan Schilling getting a cross through the ‘D’ to even the score in the 10^th minute of the second half. Mostly mind field back and forth until Josh McPherson scored off the post in a short with a few minutes left. Shane Langman coming in a scoring straight after. Caleb Halsall scoring from a short within 2.5 minutes to go. Votes went to Steven Laverty, Jarrod Knoop and Paul Slater of Hoops and votes for Dimboola went to James Klinge, Louis Haines, Ben Gebert and Tim Jorgensen.

Tigers defeated Rangers in a 6 goal win. Tigers scoring in 5^th minute from field goal to Brad Alexander. Tigers continuing to push, resulting in a great goal to Jamie Harding. Another goal to Nathan Alexander soon after. Penalty stroke to Daniel Kennedy in the 30^th minute. Half time score Tigers 4 Rangers 0. Rangers playing more in the 2^nd half with a much improved game. Lots of back and forth field play until Brad Alexander scored from a field goal in the 25^th minute. Nathan Alexander scoring from a sliding on his stomach shot from a great cross by Luke Riechenbach. Votes went to Nathan Alexander, Alex Wheaton and Jamie Harding of Tigers and for Rangers votes went to Talor Dent, Graeme Janetzki and Bradley Carter.

Cobras defeated Hurricanes in a 6 goal win. Goal scorers for cobras were Braden Clark (2), Chris White Clint Beattie, Jordan Clark, Brett Jewell and Adam Wallis (1 goal each). Hurricanes goal scorer was Andrew Dorman.

Ladder: Tigers 62, Cobras 62, Dimboola 42, Hoops 24, Hurricanes 18 and Rangers 8.

Juniors:

Raiders defeated Kookaburras in a 19 goal win. Raiders dominated the game right from the very first minute when they scored. Lachie Mills scoring 4 goals and Braden Clark scoring 3 in the first half. Second half saw Raiders continuing their goal scoring spree. Kookaburras worked hard in defence and was reward with a goal by Jayrell Guzaren. Goal scorers for Raiders were Braden Clark (7), Lachie Mills (6), Lachlan Clark (3), Duncan Shalders (2) and Lewis Bothe and Brandon Rich (1 goal each). Votes went to Lewis Both, Lachlan Clark, Braden Clark and Lachie Mills of Raiders and Kookaburras votes went to Cassie Withers, Nick Crowhurst, Maydelen Occenola and Jayrell Guzarem.

Warriors defeat Leopards in a 6-1 win. Leopards moved quickly into attack to score the first goal by Amy Schultz. Warrior soon woke up and started domination the game. Goal scorers were Sam Bone, Alex Pipkorn (2), Louise Bone and Todd Alexander (2). Votes went to Emma Janetzki, Chloe Newcombe and Brady Newcombe of Leopards and for Warriors votes went to Sam Bone, Louise Bone and Todd Alexander.

Kangaroos defeated Bombers in a 12 goal win. Kangaroos dominating play, Bombers having some nice quick runs down the wing. Bombers players playing well as a team kept on trying regardless of the score. Second half saw Kangaroos dominating the play using their wings to score. Bombers forwards playing well as a team, with nice passing. Goal scorers for Kangaroos were Jamie Guerin (7), Caleb Halsall and Andrew King (2) and Lachlan Lehmann (1). Votes went to Jo Ellis, Ellie Wood and Mikaela Turvey of Bombers votes for Kangaroos went to Jamie Guerin, Zack Slater-Collard and Caleb Halsall.

Women’s:

Thunderbirds defeated Kaniva in a 9 -0 match. Thunderbirds dominated the first half scoring 4 goals. Strong play by Pam Cramer helped them to score two goals. Second half saw Thunderbirds dominating the half scoring another 5 goals. Goal scorers were Helen Cannell (2), Pam Cramer (3) Leah Bailey (2) and Louise Bone (2). Votes went to Rachel Clark, Lisa Stimson, Bonnie Tyas and Tam White of Kaniva and for Thunderbirds votes went to Helen Cannell, Pam Cramer and Leah Bailey.

Yanac defeated Warracknabeal in a close match. Very even first half love all. Play see-sawed between both ends of the field, with each team having the chance to score, but good defence preventing this. Second half saw both team stepped up the attack with Warracknabeal leading for most of the half from a goal by Megan Harley, then Yanac scoring with 5 minutes to go through Catherine Wagg and then Erin Blackwood scored from a Penalty Stroke with 20 seconds to spare. Votes went to Alana Colbert, Erin Blackwood and Sheree Shurdington of Yanac and for Warracknabeal votes went to Nakita Langman, Donna Robinson and Jenny Gaulke.

Dimboola defeated Highlanders in a 5 -0 match. Strong play by Dimboola enabled them to score within the first minute of the match. Highlanders had small amount of forward play but were unable to convert. Dimboola kept the strong play passing well and using good teamwork. Second half saw Dimboola still dominating was most play in Dimboola’s attacking end, in which they were able to score 2 more goals. Goal scorers were Adina King (2), Michelle Searle, Elizabeth Klinge and Jess Ross. Votes went to Meaghan Pohlner, Elizabeth Klinge, Jess Ross and Michelle Searle of Dimboola. Highlander’s votes went to Ally Salter, Kellie Price, Launa Schilling and Robyn Creek.

Dimboola defeated Hurricanes in a 4-2 match. Hurricanes scored the first goal by Andrew Dorman, keeping the lead for most of the half, until Tim Jorgensen of Dimboola found a path to equal the score. Second half saw another goal by Andrew Dorman of Hurricanes scoring again, but Dimboola soon answered back with 2 quick goals. Goal scorers were Tim Jorgensen, Jarryd Tischler and Jamie Guerin (2). Votes went to Brydon Tischler, James Klinge and Jamie Guerin of Dimboola. Votes for Hurricanes went to Stuart Hoffman, Ash Hannell and Ben Schwedes.

Tigers defeated Hoops in a 2-0 match. Goal scorers were Brad Alexander and Jamie Harding. Votes went to Luke Reichenbach, Adam Clohesy and Brad Alexander of Tigers. Votes for hoops went to Steven Laverty, Will Hewitt, Shane Langman and Barry Clark.

Cobras defeated Rangers in a 4 goal win. Rangers came out hard first and scored through Rodney Reichelt but the died off to let Cobras score 2 goals. Cobras came out hard in the second half scoring another 3 goals. Goal scorers were Clint Beattie, Chris White, Malcolm Eastwood and Braden Clark (2). Raiders defeated Bombers in an 12 – 1 win. Raiders have most of attack, strong defence by Bombers but score is 4-0. Raiders have most of attack again, Bombers had a few short corners. Raider score another 8 goals with Bombers with 1 Score 12-1. Goal scorers: Bombers – Mikaela Turvey 1

Revengers defeated Kangaroos in a one goal win. Half: Score 2-1 to Warrack at ½ time. Fairly even games with play see-sawing between ends. Strong Goalie work from Ellie prevented Dim from equalising.Very even game. Dominated by the older boys and both sides. Again play see-sawed between ends, with tempers getting frayed. Goal just before time saw Warrack take the game.

Women’s:

Dimboola defeated Thunderbirds by 1 goal. 1-0 half time. Dimmy’s teamwork up to the 25 good but over shadowed by people trying to score. Nhill can’t quite get passes together to score. Both teams had their chances to score in the 2^nd half but scrappy play and good defence prevented any scoring after half time. Zoe Aitken was solid in defence and Elizabeth Klinge controlled the midfield well. Goal Scorers: Dimboola – Jude Albrecht

Highlanders defeated Warracknabeal by 2. Highlanders with most of the play but unable to convert. Also not converting a penalty stroke late in half. 0 all half-time. Highlanders finally able to convert after many near misses. Warrack had midfield chances but unable to start any attacking play. Goal Scorers: Highlanders – Carmel McFarlane 1, Ellie O’Connor 1

Yanac defeated Kaniva in a 3- 1 match. Yanac dominate match, unable to convert, many close misses. Kaniva with good defensive play, goalie and fullbacks working well under Yanac’s constant attack. 0 all. Yanac continued to put the pressure on Kaniva defense, 3 good team goals from Yanac and Kaniva got 1 back less than a minute before full time.

Cobras defeated Tigers in a 2 -0 match. : 1-0 Cobras way. Close game even play, with Tigers strong early, but Cobras fighting their way back. Yanac pressed hard but were unable to convert chances. Cobras defence held up and then were able to score very late in the game. Goal scorers: Cobras – Clint Beattie 1, Brett Jewell 1

Hurricanes defeated Hoops in a 1 -0 match. Quick game, ball going up and down both ends of ground. Both teams had their chances, no goals scored. Game continued at a quick pace with Warracknabeal having many opportunities but the Horsham goalie holding fast with some brilliant saves.

Leopards defeated bombers in a 5 nil match. First half both teams were even but Leopards managed to convert a quick goal. Second half saw Bombers teamwork prevented many Leopards scoring attempts and Leopards individual play was picked off by the Bombers defence. Leopards were able to convert 4 goals in the second half. Goal scorers were Jacob Kingwell (2), Duncan Koop, Brady Newcombe and Vicki Janetski (1 goal each). Revengers defeated Kookaburras in a 7 nil win. Revengers controlled the first half with Kookaburras having made a few shots at goals but were unable to convert. Second half Kookaburras tried hard, but were unable to penetrate and utilize their few opportunities. Goal scorers were Darius Cosgrave (3), Brodie Denes (2) and Mick Clark and Hamish Wagenknecht (1 goal each). Votes went to Mick Clark, Hamish Wagenknecht and Darius Cosgrave of Revengers, votes for Kookaburras went to Georgina Moore, Nick Crowhurst and Jayrell Guzarem.

Warriors defeated Kangaroos in a 6 – 2 match. Warriors with 2 quick goals early in first half made Kangaroos pick up their game. Kangaroos converted from a stroke by Jamie Guerin. Warriors hit back with a goal straight away. Second half saw both teams pick up with a lot more play in the middle of the field. Warriors scored 3 goals in the second half before Kangaroos soon finding a path to the goals to score a goal by Lachlan Lehmann. Goal scorers for Warriors were Louise Bone (2), Sam Bone, Josh Magrath, Todd Alexander and Alex Pipkorn (1 goal each). Votes went to Sam Bone, Josh Magrath and Todd Alexander of Warriors and for Kangaroos votes went to Madison Albrecht, Caleb Halsall, Gordon Lehmann and Jamie Guerin.

Women’s:

Thunderbirds defeated Warracknabeal by 1 in a close match. Thunderbirds had a lot of the attack during the half but a turn in play saw Warrack score from a long run by Donna Robinson. Warrack defence were continually under pressure from the Thunderbird forwards. Second half saw Thunderbirds dominated most of the play and were awarded 2 penalty strokes, but these were well saved by the goalie. Thunderbirds scored in the last ten minutes of the half to secure the win. Goal scorers were Pam Cramer and Lauren Bendall. Votes went to Pam Cramer, Mollie Webb and Lauren Bendall of Thunderbirds and for Warrack votes went to Kate Perkins, Nikita Langman and Donna Robinson.

Yanac defeated Highlanders by 1 goal. Yanac opened their account with 1 goal through Jill Kube in the first 15 Minutes. Highlanders equalised 10 minutes later by Claire Barnett. Sharon Croot put Yanac in front about 10 minutes into the second half, after Yanac took control of the game. Votes went to Erin Blackwood, Carmel Beattie and Sheree Shurdington of Yanac and for Highlanders votes went to Ally Salter, Emily Williams, Elly O’Connor and Carmel McFarlane.

Dimboola defeated Kaniva in a 8 nil match. Dimboola took control forcing lots of short corners making Kaniva’s defence work overtime. Second half saw Dimboola continued on with their attacking game. Dimboola scored off serval passages of play. Elizabeth Klinge was very strong at half back, making it impossible for Kaniva to enter the D in the second half. Goal scorers were Judith Albrecht (3), Michelle Searle and Kelly Smithyman (2) and Vicki Smithyman (1). Votes went to Elizabeth Klinge, Michelle Searle and Judith Albrecht of Dimboola and for Kaniva votes went to Rachel Clark, Symone Mitchell and Haley Williams.

Men’s:

Tigers defeated Hurricanes in an 6 nil game. Faily one sided with Tigers with most of the play. Hurricanes did look dangerous when passing, but unable to penetrate their scoring D. Although the Hurricanes began to sominate, this was not reflected on their score board. Adam Clohsey was the recipient of a penalty stroke. He gave the goalie no schance of stopping the ball. Goal scorers were Adam Clohsey, Brad Alexander, Michael Dart, Alex Wheaton, Murray Miller and Kim Croot. Votes went to Adam Clohsey, Michale Dart and Kim Croot of Tigers and for Hurricanes votes went to Joel Wilcosz, Reece Slater and Stuart Hoffman.

Dimboola drew with Cobras 3 all. Dimboola dominated the first 15 minutes, plenty of short corners but only coverting once. Cobras created a chance late in the half but had no luck, with Dimboola converting another. Cobras bounced back in the second half scoring 3 late goals, although Dimboola had coverted early in the second half through a short corner, but the defenders were under attack during this half. Goal scorers were James Klinge (2) and Jamie Guerin (1) of Dimboola and for Cobras Braden Clark (2) and Malcolm Eastwood (1). Votes went to James Klinge, Jamie Guerin and Caleb Halsall of Dimboola and for Cobras votes went to Clint Beattie, Josh Bedford, Jordan Clark and Adam Willis.

Hoops drew with Rangers nil all. Good open play. Hoops have had bulk of the play with great passing and teamwork with little success. Rangers had very few penetrating plays. Second half saw Hoops having numerous scoring chances through several penalty corners, but were unable to find the back of the net. Votes went to Graeme Janetzki, Jack Janetzki, Talor Dent and Grady Janetzki of Rangers and for Hoops Votes went to Steven Lavity, Shane Langman, Mark Furey and Simon Bardell.

Juniors

Raiders defeated Revengers in a two goal win. Goals were scored by both teams during a free running game. Revengers trying hard, but Raiders forcing the ball forward and scoring 3 goals. The Raiders had most of the play and the Revengers full backs had to work hard. Goal scorers were Braden Clark (3) and Lachlan Clark and Brandon Rick (1 goal each) of Raiders and for Revengers goal scorers were Hamish Wagenknecht (2) and Brodie Denes (1). Votes went to Lewis Bothe, Braden Clark and Brandon Rich of Raiders and for Revengers votes went to Michael Clark, Hamish Wagenknecht and Darius Cosgrave.

Leopards defeated Bombers by tweleve goals. Leopards scored 2 quick goals in the first 10 minutes, then the game evened out with both teams getting runs at goal. Leopards scored another 2 goals late in the half. Second half saw Leopards dominating the half by played a fair gam, interchanging well. Bombers tried hard to defend but Leopards proved too strong. Goal scorers were Jacob Kingwell, Duncan Koop and Brady Newcombe (3), Emma Janetzki, Amy Schultz and Vicki Janetzki (1 goal each). Votes went to Brady Newcombe, Jacob Kingwell and Tim Braendler of Leopards and for Bombers votes went to Jo Ellis, Mikaela Turvey, Claire Barnett and Ethan Mellor.

Warriors defeated Kookaburras in a 4 goal win. Cold foggy start to thje day with both teams sluggish. Kookaburras scored the first goal by Jemma Schultz before Warriors got their act together and began to dominate. Second half saw Warriors still dominating, keeping the ball in their D, firing up and scoring well. Kookaburras were unable to hold off all the attack. Goal scorers for Warriors were Sam Bone, Louise Bone, Sam Dorrington, Todd Alexander and Seth Croot. Votes went to Caitlyn Smith, Sam Bone and Louise Bone of Warriors and for Kookaburras votes went to Nick Crowhurst, Maydelen Occenola and Jayrell Guzarem.

Women’s

Dimboola defeated Warracknabeal in a 4 goal win. Dimboola had good team work, the first 2 goals were scored very quickly. Meaghan Pohlner and Rebecca Lovett were good in defence. Jenny Gaulke made some good playing opportunities. Jess Ross played strong but Jess Furey creating headaches for Dimboola. Second half saw Ellie woods playing brilliant in goals saving a truck load of goals. It was a day for all backs to shine. Strong defence by all. Rebecca Lovett was all over many attacks from Warracknabeal. Goal scorers were Vicki Smithyman (2), Jess Ross and Michelle Searle (1 goal each). Votes went to Rebecca Lovett, Meaghan Pohlner, Jess Ross and Vicki Smithyman of Dimboola. Warracknabeals votes went to Ellie Woods, Nikita Langman and Jenny Gaulke.

Yanac defeated Thunderbirds in a 1 goal win. Even game but Yanac had more of the attack, converting 1 goal. Thunderbirds strong in defence. The second half continued on in the same way. The only difference is that both teams were able to convert. Goal scorers for yanac were Sheree Shurdington and Catherine Wagg and for Thunderbird goal scorer was Emma Janetzki. Votes went to Emma Janetzki, Pam Cramer and Leah Bailey of Thunderbirds and for Yanac votes went toSheree Shurdington, Erin Blackwood and Carmel Beattie.

Highlanders defeated Kaniva by 7 goals. Highlanders working hard to move the ball towards their goals. Kaniva defenders strong, but could not prevent 3 goals. Second half saw Highlanders managed to score 4 more goals in this half. Kaniva had a short corner but were unable to convert. Goal scorers were Robyn Creek (2), Launa Schilling, Andrae Loughman, Elly O’connor, Carmel McFarland and Claire Barnett (1 goal each) Votes went to Claire Riches, Rachel Clark, Lisa Stimson and Kirralee Wilde of Kaniva and for Highlanders votes went to Andrea Loughman, Elly O’Connor, Carmel McFarlance and Kaitlyn Opie.

Men’s

Tigers defeated Rangers in a 3 -0 match. Rangers had a couple of chances but no success. Tigers pressure continued throughout the half. Team play from the tigers resulted in 2 goals, players were struggling with the wet conditions, many slipping over. Second half saw Rangers getting their act together and provided a real defensive setup. Tigers with plenty of chances but unable to convert until late into the half. Goal scorers were Adam Clohsey, Brad Alexander and Kim Croot. Votes went to Alex Welsh, Aiden Dent and Mont Miller of Rangers and for Tigers votes went to Simon Farmers, Shaun Alexander and Brad Alexander.

Cobras defeated Hurricanes in a 4 goal win. 3 goals to the vobras in the first half, the game was played at a fast paced and there were a lot of long passes. Second half saw Goal being scored by Josh Barry through more convincing play, but the cobras were able to convert another 2 goals during the half. Goal scorers for Cobras were Jordan Clark, Chris White, Brett Jewel, Braden Clark and Patrick White. Votes went to Stuart Hoffman, Ash Hannell and Caleb Halsall from Hurricanes and for Cobras votes went to Clint Beattie, Jordan Clark and Adam Wallis.

Dimboola defeated Hoops in a 3-1 match. Quick, hard fought game with both teams struggling to find rhythm. Dimboola scored once for the half. Second half both teams put together some good passages of play. Dimboola put some good team play together to score 2 good field goals. Simon Bardell finished off a good run by the Hoops to score their only goal. Goal scorers for Dimboola were Nathan Jorgensen (2) and Jamie Guerin (1). Votes went to James Klinge, Nathan Jorgensen, Jamie Guerin and Tim Jorgensen of Dimboola and for Hoops votes went to Tom Hewitt, Shane Langman and Marcus Williamson.

Kangaroos defeated Bombers in an 8 -0 match. Bombers with held Kangaroos for the first 20 minutes, but Kangaroos took off. Second Half Bombers tried hard to fend off the Kangaroos forwards, they never gave up. Goal scorers for Kangaroos were Jamie Guerin (7) and Caleb Halsall (1). Votes went to Jamie Guerin, Caleb Halsall and Zack Slater-Collard of Kangaroos and for Bomber votes went to Jo Ellis, Mikaele Turvey, Claire Barnett and Ellie Woods.

Warrios defeated Kookaburras 21 -0. Warriors dominated the match, fast clean game play and great team work. Kookaburras defence holding out many of the attacking play. Goal Scorers for Warriors were Alex Pipkorn, Josh McGrath (4), Sam Bone and Louise Bone (3), Ryan Smith, Adam Ussing, Todd Alexander (2) and Jaidyn Honeyman (1). Votes went to Caitlyn Smith, Sam Bone and Louise Bone of Warriors and for Kookaburras votes went to Cassie Withers, Georgina Moore and Stevie Lehmann.

Womens:

Warracknabeal defeated Highlanders by 3 goals. Even first half, with both teams back line very strong. Warracknabeal goals off individual streaks. Warracknabeal continued being very strong in the second half. Highlander finding many short corners, but was unable to convert. Donna Robinson scoring the final goal for Warrack. Goal scorers for Warracknabeal were Nakita Langman, Donna Robinson, Megan Harley and Jenny Gaulke. Highlanders goal scorer was Claire Barnett. Votes went to Donna Robinson, Nakita Langman and Jenny Gaulke of Warrcknabeal and for Highlanders votes went to Robyn Creek, Carmel McFarlane and Ellie O’Connor.

Dimboola defeated Thunderbirds by 2 goals. Both teams came out hard with Thunderbirds scoring the first 2 goals. Dimboola soon answered back with two quick goals. Dimboola was awarded a penalty stroke which Elizabeth Klinge was able to convert from. Goal scores for Dimboola were Vicki Smithyman (3), Elizabeth Klinge (2), and Judith Albrecht (1). Thunderbirds goal scorers were Bonnie McLeod and Lauren Bendall (2 goals each). Yanac defeated Kaniva in a 4 goal win. Yanac had quite freely roamed the field by Kaniva has had a couple of runs with the ball, however Yanac managed to score 3 quick goals at the start of the play. Kaniva held Yanac off very well only allowing 1 goal in the second half. Kaniva had a few short corners but were unable to convert. Goal scorers for Yanac were Carmel Beattie (2), Jenny Smith and Jill Kube 1 goal each. Votes went to Claire Riches, Rachel Clark and Claire McDonald of Kaniva and for Yanac votes went to Jess Wheaton, Erin Blackwood, Jenny Smith and Jill Kube.

Mens:

Hoops defeated Hurricanes by 2 goals. Hoops dominated the second half but could only managed to convert once. Stroke was awarded to Hoops but the Hurricanes goalie Joel Wilkcosz saved the goal. Goal scorers were Mark Furey and Marcus Williamson. Votes went to Barry Clark, Ethan Schilling and Will Hewitt of Hoops and Hurricanes votes went to Joel Wilkcosz, Lachlan Zoroan and Adam Furey.

Tigers defeated Cobras by 2 goals. Tigers dominated the first ten minutes but were unlucky to score. Cobras with a lucky touch in the D for the first goal by Kendel Meyer. Second half saw Tigers pick up to score 3 goals. Goal scorers for Tigers were Michael Dart, Bradley Alexander and Kim Croot. Votes went to Daniel Kennedy, Adam Clohsey and Michael Dart of Tigers and for Cobras votes went to Clint Beatie, Matthew Wallis and Adam Wallis.

Dimboola defeated Rangers by 4 goals. Free running open play saw both teams working hard for the ball. Dimboola managed to score 2 goals in the first half. Second half saw most of the play down Dimboola’s attacking end with a few quick runs by Rangers. Goal scorers for Dimboola were Jarryd Tischler (2) and Nathan Jorgensen (2). Votes went to James Klinge, Nathan Jorgensen, James Keating and Louis Haines of Dimboola and for Rangers votes went to Mont Miller, Talor Dent, Aiden Dent and Rodney Reichelt.

Wimmera Hockey Association Encouragement Award Criteria

Two Junior and two Senior recipients will earn recognition and receive an encouragement award based on the number of and degree to which they meet some or all of the following criteria:

1. Involved in representing the WHA at a regional and/or state level. Eg Country Week, Vic Stix players, officials and supporters.

2. Involved in supporting hockey activities at a club or association level over a number of years. Eg committee member, delegate, coach, umpire, player, grounds, canteen, press reports.

3. Involved in supporting a range of hockey activities at a club or association level. Eg committee member, delegate, coach, umpire, player, grounds, canteen, press reports.

4. Provides an excellent role model for others involved with the sport of hockey. Eg positive attitude, good sportsmanship, team work, encouragement.

This award is to encourage people who would not normally be recognised for their efforts

Perhaps item 1 should not be weighted as heavily as the other criteria?
